Easy Pickins

The Nitty: The client wanted a catalog site that he and his staff could update themselves on a weekly basis.

The Gritty: Easy Pickins is a New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania-based young women’s clothing, footwear, and accessories chain with over 25 store locations. After working with their marketing director on a series of gift card illustrations and store signage, I was approached with the project of creating a site that they could update themselves on a weekly basis with images of their latest items. Having completed a similar project just weeks earlier with for my friends over at Pop Trash, I knew the perfect solution: a modified installation of WordPress to simulate an easy CMS. Creating a Content Management System from the traditional blogging platform I’ve discovered is a really great way to set up an easy to update site, and the plug-in architecture that makes WordPress so modular as well as popular makes the whole deal sweeter. Not only is the client able to add images (which they are editing themselves using Photoshop Express), but they are also able to enact javascript lightboxing, add and remove sidebar widgets, and upload YouTube videos. All that is rounded out nicely with an attractive Flash header for the homepage, a constant contact sign up, downloadable coupons, and Google Analytics.
